Pre-K Graduation

Piper and Fletch "graduated" from pre-k this week. I thought that it wouldn't make me sad but when Fletch came down with a stomach bug and couldn't make the graduation ceremony/show, my heart was broken for him. I was way more upset than him.

Anyway, Eric's dad stayed at home with Fletch while Eric, his mom, and I went to the graduation. Here is a snippet from Piper's part of the ceremony.

After the ceremony, Fletch was feeling well enough to celebrate with the rest of us, so it was ice cream sundaes for dinner.

Kindercare did a great job with everything (although spelled Fletch's name wrong on the program), just as they have with nearly everything else. We'll be so sad for P&F to leave them in the fall. But, for now, it's on to summer camp.

Deacon: 2 Years Old

It's hard to believe but Deacon turned 2 years old last week. Here he is on his birthday. You may recognize this shirt from here.

He's growing up so fast. Actually, he's growing up really, really fast. Look how much he grew in the past 6 months.

Birth: 7lbs 9oz, 20.5 inches
2 weeks: 8lbs 9oz (49%), 20.25 inches (32%)
1 month: 10lbs 8oz (66%), 21 inches (31%)
2 months: 13lbs 1.6oz (70%), 23 inches (47%)
4 months: 15lbs 13oz (61%), 25 inches (46%)
6 months: 18 lbs 9oz (71%), 27 inches (68%)
9 months: 21 lbs 15oz (85%), 28.5 inches (57%)
12 months: 23lbs 1oz (76%), 29.75 inches (43%)
15 months: 25lbs 0.9oz (81%), 31.5 inches (73%)
18 months: 25lbs 11oz (71%), 32.75 inches (63%)
24 months:  30.5lbs (87%), 36.25 inches (91%)

At his pedi appointment this week, the doctor declared him happy and healthy (knock on wood).

To celebrate his birthday, we had two sets of celebrations. One on his real birthday, June 10. Eric and I picked the kids up from school, ate dinner at a Mexican restaurant (new restaurant, but same tradition of Mexican on birthdays), and came home for cake and presents.

It was a really nice night, and I think we're going to keep up this family tradition, especially for weeknight birthdays. On the Saturday after Deke's birthday, we had his "big" party--ok, big by our standards--5 adults and 3 kids. My mom was here and Eric's parents came over. Deke LOVES Elmo so the theme was Sesame Street. We had pizza, cake, and opened presents. It was a great time.

So that's how we celebrated. Now you're probably wondering what our new 2-year old is like. He is a sweet, smart, crazy, adorable little guy. He favorite things in the world are Piper, Fletch, farm animals, his pacifier (binky), Daddy and Elmo, although maybe not in that order (I'd probably put binky first on that list). He loves to run around and wants so bad to play with Piper and Fletch, although I'm not sure they appreciate his form of "playing" which includes a lot of tackling, stealing toys, and occassional biting.

When he's not chasing P&F, he's talking--he has tons and tons of words--he's just starting 2-word sentences--and reading. He can't have too many books read to him--it's never enough. He would love to just sit all day and have books with animals in them read continuously. He's obsessed.

As for his daily routines, Deke is in school at Kindercare full-time with Piper and Fletch, and it's going great. He just moved up to the 2-year old classroom, and his new teacher, like his old teacher, reports that he is just a joy in the classroom. They gush about what a sweetheart he is every time I see him. They say he just smiles and laughs all day. We see that at home too, although he's also nice enough to grace us with tantrums when we can't read Moo Baa Laa RIGHT NOW and just general 2-year old mischief making.

When Deke isn't at school, his two big activities at home are eating and sleeping. In the past 2-3 months, we've seen a huge improvement in his eating. He no longer screams through 95% of meals.I'd say now it's down to only about 20%. Sleeping, on the other hand, is still a work on progress. Since we got back from our cruise, he's been waking up in the middle of the night and again for the day before 5am most days, which means he has two very tired parents. We're hoping he starts sleeping later real soon because mama needs her shut-eye.

Finally, Deke has made huge strides in overcoming his hypotonia. He still wears braces on his feet, but he's walking so well now and running at full speed when the mood strikes. He can also jump and climb with the best of them, and we often find him climbing things that P&F never attempted at his age. He's quite the little monkey.

So, that's the latest on our sweet Dekie-Boy ChickenPants. Happy birthday, sweet boy. We love you so much.

School Pictures 2015

A few weeks ago, the kids had their pictures taken at school. Piper was happy to show off her smile for the camera. Not sure what Fletch is doing with his smile in a few of them, but he's still cute. And Deke--he wasn't too sure about the photographer.

Love these class pictures!

What big kids they are, especially P&F in their cap and gowns.

Love these cuties!
