Silver Diner

On Sunday, we got up early and went for breakfast at one of our favorite places--Silver Diner. This was the Piper and Fletch's first restaurant experience where they got to sit at the table, rather than sleep in their car seats.

They did awesome and enjoyed the pancakes (but who doesn't love pancakes?). They also liked just looking at all the people. Ever the flirt, Fletch kept smiling and making eyes at our very sweet waitress Mabel, who didn't mind the huge mess we made at (ok, mostly under) our table. Piper, always busy with her hands, just loved grabbing for things on the table. All in all, it was a lot of fun.

Away We Go

Fletch watched his sister crawl for long enough and decided it was his turn this past Monday. On Friday, I took the babies outside and he tried to make his get away through the grass.

It's adorable watching them follow us around the house. It's like having two little dogs, but way cuter. Guess it's time to babyproof now that we have two mobile babies.

Father's Day

I’ve been racking my brain to come up with some clever title and ideas for this post, but since nothing is coming to me, I’ll just do a recap. Father’s Day was yesterday, and it was great.

We took the babies on their first swim, and they really liked it. I think they liked being held in the water more than the floats, but they just looked so darned cute in their police car and flowery raft. Here are the videos we captured:

Eric is such a wonderful dad and sometimes seeing him with the babies just melts my heart.

On Sunday night, we had a cookout with Eric’s parents, after the babies went to bed. Oh, and Saturday was good too. We ran 10 miles in the morning and then went to a “playdate” in the evening at Reverend Gentle’s house from National City. The babies loved being in a new environment and seeing other kids and people. And, it was great for Eric and I to hang out with some folks. Last time we were at Reverend Gentle’s house, was the day before the babies were born. What a difference a few months make!

In other news, Fletch is now crawling and getting himself into a sitting position on his own. Yay! I think he’ll be a much happier boy now that he can travel around the room like Piper. We’ll get some video this week to post.

That’s it from the Woodard household. Have a great week!

Fun in the Sun

This weekend, we had a ton of fun with my mom visiting. Here’s the recap:

Friday: After last week’s atrocious heat, it finally cooled down a bit for us to spend time outside. Mom arrived, and we spent some time sitting on the lawn and cooling off in the wading pool. Piper and Fletch just love being on the grass and in the water. Early in the day, Piper was having some separation anxiety issues but after relaxing in the pool, she calmed down a bit, and enjoyed just hanging out.

Saturday: Eric and I started the day by the heading out at 5:30am for a 9-miler with our running group, while Mom enjoyed the morning with the Piper and Fletch. We rushed home at 8:30am to rescue Mom from the babies, because they usually wake up at 5:30am and start to get cranky at 8:30am, only to find they slept until 8am! What’s up with that?!? In any case, after morning naps, we headed to a cookout, where the babies enjoyed the first taste of chicken and beef from their Grandpa’s cooker. Fletch was a bit apprehensive, but Piper loved it. She kept climbing back to me begging for more. We headed back home for afternoon naps, and just relaxed the rest of the day. We ended the evening watching the movie Salt, which was mediocre but mercifully short.

Sunday: We had a jam-packed day on Sunday. In the morning, before it got too hot, Mom and I took the babies on a long walk, and then we spent the morning playing in the baby jail. After naps, we headed over to the spray park to cool down and have a picnic. That place is just awesome; I can’t say enough good things about it. We got home just in time for everyone, including the adults, to nap. We then drove Mom to the airport, and the four of us went to another cookout. Little did we know, the babies would get to wake up to see Mom again on Monday because she got to stay a surprise extra night with us due to plane troubles. So, on Sunday night, I headed back to the airport. Mom got off the ground and back to Boston on Monday morning.

It was a terrific weekend. And the fun didn’t end for Eric on Sunday. He stayed home and did “Daddy daycare” with the babies because on Monday. Today, Tuesday, life was back to normal.

No huge milestones to report. Piper is crawling around faster and faster and trying to pull up. Fletch is still trying to crawl, but he's 99% of the way there.
